StandWithUs Los Angeles Commemorates Yom Hashoah

The StandWithUs Holocaust Education Center (HEC) was honored to feature two remarkable Holocaust survivors at its Yom HaShoah commemoration events in Los Angeles.

Susanne Reyto spoke to the Tzofim/Israeli Scouts of LA about her experience growing up in Hungary during the Holocaust,  recounting the harrowing circumstances she faced and paying tribute to the remarkable individuals whose bravery saved her life.  She talked about resilience and the enduring power of hope.  Susanne answered tough questions posed by the children and reminded them how important it is to stand up against any form of indoctrination and hate.

HEC was honored to join the Israeli American Council (IAC) and a Book By Me at the IAC Shepher Center for a meaningful and moving event.

Holocaust survivor Carol Roth, was born in 1941 in Belgium, grew up in hiding in France and lost her mother in Auschwitz. She shared her story of survival and explained how she learned to stand strong against antisemitism, and is a proud Jewish mother and grandmother.  Carol brought original pictures and documents, including her personal family album from their joyous trip to Israel that so filled her with hope. Thank you to Jewish Family Service LA for connecting us.

The event featured War And Peace Through Children’s Eyes — an impactful exhibition shedding light on the fate of Ukrainian children caught in the crossfire of war. Presented by the creators of Faith Under Siege together with Save Ukraine, this exhibit offered a deeply human perspective on children who have been kidnapped by Russia or are living under Russian control.
