(Los Angeles – December 14, 2025) – Following the terrible massacre where so many were murdered and wounded at a Hanukkah event organized by Chabad in Sydney, StandWithUs unequivocally stands with the community and people of Sydney and condemns this antisemitic massacre.
This horrific attack is not only an assault on the Jewish community, but an attack on the fundamental values of a democratic society. Jews gathering to celebrate Hanukah, a holiday symbolizing religious freedom and resilience, were deliberately targeted for who they are. There can be no ambiguity: this was an act of antisemitic terror.
StandWithUs calls on the Australian government to take far more aggressive and sustained action to confront the escalating antisemitism crisis gripping that country.
StandWithUs has repeatedly warned that rising incitement, harassment, and threats, particularly since the October 7th Hamas massacres, would lead to real-world violence if left unchecked. In Australia, this has included attacks and threats against synagogues, Jewish schools, and community institutions, paralleling a global wave of antisemitic violence seen in attacks from Manchester, United Kingdom, to Boulder, Colorado, to the Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.
We demand government of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese conduct a thorough investigation by Australian authorities to identify all perpetrators, enablers, and networks connected to this attack. We call for immediately increased security protections for Jewish institutions, community events, schools, and synagogues across Australia.
Antisemitism is not a Jewish problem, it is a societal failure. The response to this massacre will be a test of Australia’s commitment to pluralism, democratic values, and the safety of all its citizens.
StandWithUs mourns the victims, prays for the wounded, and stands in solidarity with Australia’s Jewish community at this moment of profound grief and resolve.
