Petition Against the UNHRC’s One-Sided “Commission of Inquiry” Targeting Israel
I join people across the globe who oppose the UN Human Rights Council’s (UNHRC) open-ended “Commission of Inquiry” targeting Israel, the world’s only Jewish state and the Middle East's only proven democracy. I reject the legitimacy of this “inquiry,” which is led by officials with long records of anti-Israel bias and a corrupt “human rights council” dominated by undemocratic regimes that violate human rights. I am outraged that the UNHRC is using dramatically more resources for this transparent effort to harm Israel, than to investigate horrific atrocities in Syria and other places around the world.
The UNHRC’s systemic discrimination against Israel has been condemned by multiple UN Secretaries-General, and is a form of antisemitism according to the internationally accepted definition of this bigotry. I have no confidence in the UNHRC’s ability to advance the cause of human rights, justice, or peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

The UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has created a permanent “commission of inquiry” targeting Israel, led by officials with long records of anti-Israel bias. Its proposed budget and staff are twice the size of a similar commission focusing on the Syrian Civil War. While the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a tragedy that must end, the UN’s own estimates show that at least 120 times fewer people have been killed on both sides since 2011 (4,133), compared to the Syrian Civil War in that same time period (over 500,000).
The UNHRC is supposed to be “responsible for the promotion and protection of all human rights around the globe.” However, in reality, it is a corrupt institution that constantly abuses its power and resources. The UNHRC is controlled by a majority of undemocratic governments, including regimes responsible for some of the worst human rights violations in the world today.
One way the UNHRC abuses its power is through systemic discrimination against Israel, the only proven democracy in the Middle East. It has condemned and investigated the Jewish state more than all other governments in the world combined. The UNHRC even has a special agenda item during all of its sessions dedicated to smearing just one country: Israel. Even UN Secretaries-General have publicly criticized the UNHRC’s bias, but nothing has changed. In fact, with the new “Commission of Inquiry,” the situation is getting worse.
There is no justification for targeting Israel in this way, while ignoring or using dramatically fewer resources to address the worst human rights abuses around the world. The goal is to put the world’s only Jewish state on trial, as part of a larger campaign to eliminate Israel and strip away Jewish rights to self-determination and self-defense. The UNHRC is fueling more division, hatred, and conflict, instead of advancing the cause of human rights, justice, and peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
