This past Thursday, Mezuzahs were torn from the doors of three separate Toronto condo buildings, including one called home by Nate Leipciger, a 97-year-old Holocaust survivor.
“I feel vulnerable… they invaded under my skin,” said Leipciger, who survived Auschwitz and has spent decades educating future generations about the Holocaust. “It’s a different time, but the hatred is the same.” This attack comes just weeks after 20 mezuzahs were torn from doorposts at another seniors’ residence in Toronto on December 7, according to Toronto Police.
These are not just acts of vandalism; they are acts of hate targeting Jewish identity, memory, and presence.
