(Tallahassee, Florida, March 5, 2025) — The State of Florida is once again taking a leading role in combating antisemitism by bolstering its protections against taxpayer dollars becoming embroiled in discriminatory treatment of Israel.
Bills were introduced on Wednesday in both the Florida House and Senate to extend the state’s anti-BDS law to prohibit state contracts with those engaged in not only economic boycotts against Israel but also boycotts by academic institutions and nonprofit organizations, as well as those receiving state grants. The bills would also extend application of the state’s anti-BDS law to political subdivisions (e.g., municipalities) within Florida.
“This is a crucial next step in ensuring that the insidious BDS campaign - whose goal is to undermine and ultimately destroy the State of Israel - is not able to take hold in Florida,” said Peggy Shapiro, Director of Legislative Policy and Community Outreach at StandWithUs. “We applaud those responsible for bringing these bills forward for taking this strong stance in support of Israel, one of Florida’s greatest economic allies.”
