(Los Angeles, CA -- May 31, 2020) -- StandWithUs is heartbroken and horrified by the killing of George Floyd, and we extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends. The video showing a (now former) police officer kneeling on George Floyd's neck while three others stood by and let it happen is disturbing beyond words. It illustrates the urgent need for accountability and justice in this and other similar cases.
It is clear that the killing of George Floyd, following the shootings of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, has once again ripped open deep wounds in America, particularly for the Black community. We hope this will become a catalyst for people of all backgrounds to come together and work towards a more just society that will heal those wounds.
While the StandWithUs Center for Combating Antisemitism was established to confront bigotry against the Jewish people, we are also guided by a broader vision of a world free of racism and all forms of hate. We will fight for that vision through education in schools, universities, social media, and other platforms, arm in arm with all those who share these values and ideals.
