Shurat HaDin Sues Al Jazeera on Behalf of Victims of Terrorism

(Washington, D.C. - February, 2025) —Shurat HaDin, in partnership with StandWithUs, filed suit against the Al Jazeera Media Network on February 23, 2025 at US District Court for the District of Columbia. The lawsuit seeks to hold Al Jazeera accountable for its role in providing material support to terrorist organizations, and seeks financial compensation and justice for victims and victims' families of the October 7th attacks and ensuing war.

Al Jazeera and its journalists have long served as mouthpieces for Hamas and other jihadist causes, sometimes even embedding with terrorists as they have conducted attacks. The lawsuit alleges that beyond its bounds as a journalist institution, Al Jazeera has knowingly maintained terrorists on its payrolls and has paid for guest appearances at its conferences, which have included terrorists as speakers. The network has streamlined anti-American, anti-Israel, and antisemitic misinformation, fueling hatred and instability around the world.

Jordan Cope, Director of Policy Education for StandWithUs and a legal consultant and researcher on the lawsuit stated, "StandWithUs has assisted Shurat HaDin to prepare this lawsuit including providing critical research, legal theory and consulting, and Arabic translations in order to help expose Al Jazeera journalists and their affiliations to terrorist groups—including Hamas and the Islamic Jihad. Until now, much of the information in the complaint has never been exposed. It’s high time that Al Jazeera is held accountable for the terrorists it has sponsored and incited."

StandWithUs extends its tremendous gratitude to Shurat HaDin’s Avi Leitner, Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, Tammie Purow, Shlomit Metz-Poolat, Or Hikry, and Matan Siskind; as well as Robert Tolchin of the Berkman Law Office for drafting the complaint and seeing it through to fruition. StandWithUs also thanks attorneys Ashley Saul of Mark Migdal & Hayden, Dianne Sue Cohen of Martindale-Hubbell, Danit Darmon of Zumpano Patricios, and Mark Goldfeder of the National Jewish Advocacy Center for their general legal advice throughout the process.
