StandWithUs UK welcomes the swift action taken by law enforcement and the University of Oxford following the arrest of a student who was filmed chanting inflammatory and hateful messages during a protest in London on 11 October 2025.
The language used in these chants was not political expression but an incitement of hate that targets Jewish people and those who support the right of Israel to exist. Such rhetoric fuels fear within the Jewish community and contributes to a toxic atmosphere on British campuses.
This incident demonstrates why our Voice of Students recommendations are urgently needed. In particular:
- Recognition – Institutions must acknowledge the clear link between anti-Zionism and antisemitism. Denying Jewish people the right to national self-determination or using “Zionist” as a slur perpetuates prejudice.
- Accountability – Universities must act decisively and transparently when hate speech occurs within their communities.
- Expulsion – Those who promote or incite hatred and violence against any group should face firm disciplinary measures, including expulsion when appropriate.
When British students celebrate a massacre, it is first and foremost a national problem. It is not just a Jewish problem. A society that rejoices in the murder of human beings is a society in moral collapse.
We call on all universities across the United Kingdom to adopt policies that ensure Jewish students feel safe, supported and respected on campus. Words of hate have no place in our academic institutions.
StandWithUs UK remains committed to empowering students to stand up against antisemitism and to promoting understanding through education.
