As our final Voice of the People event with Eylon Levy took place on November 5 in Montreal, a crowd of anti-Israel protestors gathered outside of the shul in an attempt to intimidate our community.
Our staff and guests were called baby killers and terrorists, and a number of our students were menacingly called out by name as the antisemites did their best to dampen our spirits.
We are horrified by this sickening display by masked Hamas supporters targeting a group that included children and the elderly. Their faces may have been covered, but the grotesquerie of their actions and their lack of morality cannot be hidden.
The contrast was stark in a way that is representative of the two sides of this issue facing Canada today: inside the shul was a profound scene of comradery, support, and love for both Israel and Canada, while outside was a show of vitriol, incitement, and hatred. It’s high time that our government and law enforcement do their part to enforce this country’s laws and protect our community.
