It’s hard to compare tragedies like the Holocaust and October 7th. Comparing pain can sometimes imply that one form of suffering is greater than another. Instead, perhaps it’s better to look for the shared threads of heroism that connect these moments, the same spirit of our people, who time and again have shown unimaginable courage and deep mutual responsibility for one another.
On October 7th, Liron Barda could have run for her life — but she chose to stay and save people she didn’t even know, until her very last moment. Let us be united not only in our pain, but in our strength. Let’s tell the story of the one who stayed, so that she may stay with us, always.
