U.S.-Israel trade helps Americans #
Despite Israel’s small size, it is America’s 17th largest trading partner. In 2024, total trade between the U.S. and Israel reached roughly $55 billion.[ii] U.S. exports to Israel create jobs in America and imports from Israel improve the lives of Americans every day:
- Israeli drip-irrigation technology helps farmers feed people across America, by growing more crops with less water and fertilizer.
- American doctors and nurses use Israeli medical devices and digital-health tools to deliver better healthcare to people across the country.
- Israeli water technology and clean energy firms partner with U.S. cities and utilities, helping Americans use water and energy more sustainably and efficiently.[iii]
Israeli companies invest in America and create good jobs for Americans #
- In 2024, Israelis or Israeli-owned companies invested over $24 billion in the United States. In the 10 years from 2015-2024, the total was over $318 billion, or almost $32 billion per year.[iv]
- These investments create American jobs across multiple sectors, including in software, healthcare, communications, clean tech, advanced manufacturing, and more.
Joint Research and Development between the U.S. and Israel helps Americans #
- The Binational Industrial Research and Development Foundation (BIRD) helps pair American and Israeli companies to develop new technologies. Since 1977, BIRD has approved close to 1,200 joint projects and helped generate over $10 billion in sales for companies from both countries.[ix]
- Similar U.S.-Israel programs promote joint research in other fields, such as agriculture and sciences.
- Cornell University and Technion – Israel Institute of Technology partnered to created Cornell Tech in New York City (NYC) in 2017. In 2022-23, startups created by Cornell Tech students reportedly created 525 jobs and over $200 million in economic output for NYC.[x]
- Israel hosts hundreds of research and development centers run by American companies.[xi] Technology created in Israel helps the American economy by making U.S. products more advanced and competitive in the global market.
U.S. support for Israel’s self-defense helps Americans #
The U.S. spends hundreds of billions on regions and governments all over the world, providing economic aid, military assistance, and defense. Debates about this spending are entirely legitimate, especially when many Americans struggle to make ends meet. However, singling out aid to Israel (around 0.06% of the U.S. government’s annual budget) is deeply misguided.
- Each year, the U.S. provides Israel $3.3 billion in military aid and $500 million for joint missile-defense programs.[xiv] Israel must spend most of this funding on U.S.-made products and services, supporting American jobs in the defense industry.[xv] By 2028, essentially all of the money must be spent in America.
- Israelis are currently debating whether to continue accepting military aid or negotiate different types of security cooperation with the U.S. going forward.
- Israel provides the U.S. and its allies vital defense technology and intelligence that save lives.
- Some claim ending U.S. aid to Israel would help bring peace to the region. In reality, it would encourage Iran’s regime, Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and other genocidal extremists to escalate their efforts to destroy the world’s only Jewish state. This would fuel more war, with horrific results for Israelis, Palestinians, and all civilians in the region.
- If Israelis are forced to fight even more destructive wars, many of the benefits Americans get every day from cooperating with Israel would disappear.
Israelis Love America #
Studies from Pew show that Israelis are the most reliable friends America has in the world.[xvii][xviii]
- Many people from other countries, including strong U.S. allies, change their attitude from year to year based on politics or other factors.
- On the other hand, in every single poll almost all Israelis say they have a positive view of America.
