Let America’s elected leaders know: we will not tolerate the indefinite detention of our citizens abroad. Take action now and demand the return of Kamran Hekmati.

Recent reports indicate that Kamran Hekmati, a 70-year-old Iranian American resident of Long Island, NY, and an American citizen, has been held in Iran’s notorious Evin Prison since July, after Iran charged him with the “crime” of traveling to Israel 13 years prior for a family member’s bar mitzvah.
He is suffering the profound injustice of detention without fair legal process, thousands of miles from home. His detention is arbitrary, politically motivated, and violates both his human rights and his status as a U.S. citizen abroad.

This case also underscores a broader pattern of Iran using foreign nationals as political pawns by targeting Jewish dual Iranian American citizens for associating with Israel. This case being the first to target a Jewish dual Iranian American citizen for visiting Israel for personal reasons. The U.S. must make clear that such behavior carries consequences.

Join the campaign calling on your elected representatives to:

Demand Mr. Hekmati’s immediate release and denounce his detention as unlawful and politically motivated.
Use every diplomatic and political tool available to bring him home safely.
Insist on full consular access and protection for Mr. Hekmati while he remains in Iranian custody.
Hold Iran accountable for its ongoing practice of detaining foreign nationals as leverage.

The United States must stand up and act decisively—prompt action is necessary.
