The East End Food Co-Op Board Must Put a Stop to a Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Referendum

HELP US:

email the EEFC Board and urge them to put a stop to this divisive and dangerous referendum immediately!

The East End Food Co-op (EEFC) is considering allowing a member referendum that would align the Co-op with the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Movement and halt the sale of Israeli products. This referendum threatens to undermine the Co-op’s core values, divide the community, and create serious moral, financial, and legal consequences.

BDS is widely recognized as an antisemitic movement because it singles out the world’s only Jewish state for elimination, promotes discrimination based on national origin, and regularly fuels hostility toward Jewish and Israeli individuals. Its leaders have openly opposed Israel’s existence, and BDS campaigns across the country have been accompanied by spikes in antisemitic harassment, intimidation, and vandalism. Allowing a vote that incorporates BDS into Co-op policy contradicts the EEFC’s commitment to inclusivity, social responsibility, and a safe, welcoming environment for all shoppers.

The Board has a responsibility to protect the Co-op, uphold its principles, and ensure its long-term sustainability. Passing a BDS referendum could violate nondiscrimination policies, alienate members, expose the Co-op to legal liability, and trigger financial losses. The EEFC’s Board has previously indicated it would avoid such a vote; now is the time to ensure they stand by that commitment.

We are calling on all community members to email the EEFC Board and urge them to put a stop to this divisive and dangerous referendum immediately!
