StandWithUs Netherlands international law seminar
SWU Netherlands organized a seminar about international law focused on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This meeting took place at the University of Maastricht. During the seminar, experts talked about the two-state solution and deeper roots of the conflicts. The seminar is an important part of our education mission.
The room was almost completely sold out. Dr. Fred Grunfeld, Jan van Benthem, Dr. Matthijs de Blois en Andrew Tucker fascinated the visitors for 4 hours straight with lectures. Visitors were also allowed to ask questions what resulted in interesting discussions. It was an insightful day where everyone left a bit smarter than when they came in.

SWU Maastricht Purim Event 2020 – Collect the hamantashen!
The Jewish community in Maastricht came together for a Purim-event right before the Dutch government announced new corona measures.
The SWU-Netherlands coordinators wanted to ensure a safe location for the Purim celebrations. Maastricht had just celebrated its own carnaval and 2 weeks later it was our turn. The Purim celebration was among the last events before the lockdown measures kicked in.
What made this celebration unique? We don’t even know where to start. Costumes, traditional Purim food, and songs were widely enjoyed till late at night. We also organized several games for the participants. This is how Purim should be.

Chanukah Pubquiz
On Monday 23rd of December, SWU Netherlands organized a pubquiz together with IJAR, Bendigamos, and Jewish Young Professionals.
First, we lightened the Chanukah on Dam square. It was amazing to see that this huge central square in the heart of Amsterdam, often used by anti-Israel activists, was now a place for Jews and non-Jews to come together.

Pro-Israel manifestation
On the 6th of september StandWithUs Netherlands participated in a demonstration against BDS organized by Time To Stand Up For Israel in the Hague. This occurred during Israels prime-minister Benyamin Netanyahu visit to Holland. The multiple Israeli flags colored the city blue and white and acted as support for Israel and to counter the hate of the anti-Israel activists. Elad Zigler: “Supporting Israel is not a partisan subject. Israel is the only functioning democracy in the Middle-East and lighting example of coexistence. The only way to lasting peace is dialogue.” Two Christian members of parliaments (Joel Voordwind (ChristenUnie) and Kees van der Staaij (SGP)) were present to support the cause.
