After nearly a year of sustained advocacy, the San Diego Antisemitism Task Force at StandWithUs played a leading role in advancing the adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Working Definition of Antisemitism by the San Diego City Council.
Through months of meetings with council members, strategic coordination, and community mobilization, the Task Force helped bring the resolution to a vote, culminating in an overwhelming 8–1 approval.
In the days leading up to the decision, hundreds of San Diego community members took action by sending thousands of emails, making calls, and showing up in force at City Hall. Task Force members also spoke directly at the council meeting, ensuring the realities of antisemitism were clearly heard.
While the adoption of the IHRA definition of Antisemitism marks an important step forward in our fight, by providing a shared framework to identify and address antisemitism in San Diego, and reinforcing the power of organized community action.
