Why We Stand: The Mission & Purpose of the Antisemitism Task Force at StandWithUs San Diego

San Diego is known for its diversity, vibrant communities, and welcoming culture of inclusion. Yet even in this paradise we call home, a powerful and unsettling reality is becoming increasingly apparent: antisemitism is on the rise.

In recent years, Jewish communities across the United States, including here in San Diego, have experienced a significant rise in anti-Jewish incidents. These range from harassment and vandalism to the spread of misinformation and antisemitic conspiracy theories online. According to reporting from StandWithUs, antisemitic incidents in the US have increased 380% since October 7th, reflecting a broader trend that communities across the country are confronting.

Against this backdrop, the StandWithUs Antisemitism Task Force in San Diego was established to raise awareness, provide education, and serve as a trusted voice on antisemitism in the region. By helping the public better understand what antisemitism is, how it manifests today, and why it matters, the Antisemitism Task Force works to empower San Diegans to recognize and confront antisemitism wherever it appears.

The New Face of Antisemitism

Historically, antisemitism has manifested as religious persecution and outright violence. But in the social media landscape of today, antisemitism can appear in both familiar and new ways, including:

  • Online harassment
  • Vandalism or attacks targeting Jewish-owned businesses
  • The spread of antisemitic stereotypes and conspiracy theories
  • Attempts to delegitimize Jewish identity or deny Jewish history
  • Shaming Jews for their ties to Israel

Why the Antisemitism Task Force Was Created

The mission of the Antisemitism Task Force is to decisively combat Jewish bigotry, harassment, and discrimination through coordinated action, strategic alliances, steadfast protection of the Jewish community, and to hold bad actors accountable.

Rather than responding only to individual incidents, the Antisemitism Task Force focuses on building long-term awareness and understanding, helping the broader public recognize antisemitism, understand its impact, and learn how to stand against it.

By fostering informed conversations and providing accessible educational content, we’re creating a stronger, more welcoming community.

Our Approach to Combating Antisemitism

The Antisemitism Task Force works across multiple channels to reach audiences throughout San Diego and beyond. Our initiatives focus on education, awareness, and community engagement. These include:

Community Engagement

Through partnerships with community leaders, educators, interfaith communities, and public officials, we’re encouraging meaningful dialogue and shared responsibility, while forming a group of like-minded advocates who are ready to combat Jew hatred in all of its forms.

Media and Public Communication

The Antisemitism Task Force also works to ensure accurate and responsible coverage of antisemitism in media and public discourse, positioning itself as a trusted source of expertise on the issue.

Education and Public Awareness

We’re dedicated to educating local San Diegans on antisemitism and helping them stay informed about developments affecting Jewish communities.

Why Our Work Matters

Antisemitism does not affect only local Jewish communities; it threatens the fabric of San Diego’s culture as a whole. History has shown us that antisemitism often serves as an early warning sign of broader societal intolerance. When antisemitism goes unchallenged, other forms of hatred and discrimination frequently follow.

By raising awareness and promoting understanding, the Antisemitism Task Force at StandWithUs helps ensure that San Diego remains a community where diversity is respected and hatred is confronted. Because in America’s Finest City, we deserve nothing less.
