Four Convicted in Assault at Asheville, NC Library Event Targeting Jewish Attendees

(Los Angeles, CA — March 2026) — StandWithUs Saidoff Law expressed appreciation for the convictions of four individuals responsible for assaulting attendees during an incident targeting Jewish individuals at the West Asheville Library in Asheville, North Carolina on March 10, 2026. StandWithUs Saidoff Law worked with the courageous and resilient victims for nearly two years to achieve this outcome.

Yael Lerman, Director of StandWithUs Saidoff Law stated, “The outcome represents an important step toward accountability and reinforces that violence and intimidation directed at individuals because they are Jewish, or are perceived to support Israel, will be addressed under the law.”

She continued, “We appreciate the efforts of the Asheville District Attorney’s Office and the Asheville Police Department. Protecting Jewish and Zionist Americans from harassment and violence is fundamental to the rule of law and to the civil rights protections that safeguard every member of our communities. It is essential that the legal system respond and hold perpetrators accountable.”

The incident occurred on June 29, 2024, during an anti-Israel “Anarchist Bookfair” held at the West Asheville Library. During the event, Jewish attendees were assaulted and forcibly removed by anti-Israel activists who targeted them because they were perceived to be Zionists. According to reports from the incident, individuals were physically dragged from the venue. Among those removed was an elderly attendee who is a cancer survivor and is not Jewish.

One of the Jewish individuals who was attacked, David Moritz, welcomed the outcome.
“We are pleased that the justice system in Asheville has delivered four convictions and we appreciate the tremendous work that Assistant District Attorney Stormy Ellis, Detective Shawn Parker and the Asheville Police Department have done to ensure that violence is not acceptable in our community,” Moritz said.

According to court records, the individuals convicted in connection with the incident include: Tyler Byrne Hackett Kelly – Register of Actions: 24CR362523-100; Michael Solomon Brocenos – Register of Actions: 24CR360453-100; Taylor Danielle Zarkin – Register of Actions: 24CR346592-100; and Emily Kathryn Murphy – Register of Actions: 24CR405468-100.

StandWithUs Saidoff Law thanks the victims who came forward and participated in the legal process with bravery and unwavering persistence to see justice served.
